History and Legends
Scotland is rightfully famous for its colourful and often brutal history. From our ancient monuments and standing stones going back to the dawn of civilisation - right up to our more modern wartime and industrial history.
Scotland has had an impact on the development and imagination of people from every land and culture.
We are also very lucky to maintain a wealth of myth and legend, handed down through the generations at gatherings and by the fireside across the country. Tales of heroes and monsters, faeries and ghosts abound.
All of our guides are thoroughly versed on the history of this land they love, more importantly they are all incredible storytellers. As much as we are blessed by stunning scenery and a vibrant culture this can only give snapshot of the country. There is no better way to really get a feel for this magical land than with an informative and entertaining guide. They will get you off the beaten track and help you get the most from this country where every rock and stream has a story to tell, and every patch of land has seen generations live and love, fight and die.
We firmly believe that this history and mythology is part of the land. That it belongs to the places where it happened and only in these places can the true resonance be felt. It is for this reason that we generally avoid museums and visitor centres, we would rather take you out into the hills and glens, where the echoes of these past times can still be felt, and tell you the stories of our homeland the best way we know how.
After all, you have paid for a guided tour - and a guided tour is what you will get, not chauffeured from one visitor attraction to another with a few lame gags thrown in for good measure.
It is for this reason that we have not gone into a great deal of detailed history on these pages, and you will find almost none of our huge stock of myths and legends. The ancient Celtic cultures were without exception oral. It was believed the power of the tale was in the telling and each made the story their own while maintaining the vital elements. We try to continue this tradition and it is the friendships we have made over the years which keep new tales coming.
If you really want to get a feel for this mystical country then hop on a tour with us, we swear you will not be disappointed!
